the shopping-less weekend

good news:
everyone finally got tired of shopping and we did other things for a change

on friday night we went to watch a free german movie at the german consulate. it was quite ideological... about 3 young people who break and enter into rich 'capitalist' houses but don't steal anything... they just make significant rearrangements inside to freak the owners out and make a statement. i'll put the title here when i find it, it's pretty good. (except that i think it was filmed entirely on a hand-held camera and so i missed about half the show cos i got too giddy. i had to ask all my friends what the ending was and i didn't really get a very satisfactory explanation haha)

saturday
tracked down good and cheap xiao long baos recommended by my colleague.
万寿斋, 山阴路, near 卢讯公园
[ok there was a picture here but i can't seem to post so many so just use your imagination ok? anyway xiaolongbaos all look the same. it's just the taste that's different. and you'll can't taste them anyway! wheeee. maybe on top of pictures, sound and video clips, they should also have virtual taste pads.]
we went to see some cool art galleries in warehouses.
it was a really cold day!
then we took a super expensive cab ride from north-east shanghai to south-west shanghai to visit the
七宝古城
there were a lot of stalls. but we were most interested in the food

this is a red bean pancake covered in caramel

if they're going to sell mutton they really shouldn't advertise with cute little lambs

check out the name!! *guffaw*

this is really interesting - it's some glutinous rice with peanuts and raisins steamed in a bamboo wrap. very soft and fragrant
