Just as I was about to fall asleep, along came a free Cornetto!
All thanks to Uzbekistan and a reckless colleague.
Yesterday, in the last five minutes of our work day, GSC yelled a challenge out to Lao Fang in the next cubicle. Before long, he'd placed his bet that China would win against Uzbekistan in the Asia Cup match last night. He even confidently and generously stated that even a tie would be considered as a win for Uzbek. The stake was 100rmb. Of course Lao Fang happily accepted.
This morning, the first thing everyone did as they strolled in was to gleefully and cheerfully remind GSC that he'd lost and to start making suggetsions on what to spend the 100rmb on.
Nobody mourned the fact that China's Asia Cup dreams are now shattered. Free ice-cream was far more tangible. Instead, Linda mourned the fact that there were to be no more matches for the silly guys to bet on cos either way someone would lose and we'd all benefit again. For no particular reason other than... 听者有份?
Uzbekistan vs China is now my favourite match of the season. Even though I didn't even watch it :)
(wow good timing! just as the last lick of ice-cream disappeared, our boss came back! and the merry mood dissipated. he missed out. *shake head*)
