Opens 2007

Saturday
5.00am: alarm rings. but i think i was awake anyway. snuck out of the house into darkness
6.00am: sitting at the bus stop waiting to be fetched. lots of lightning!
6.10am: it's RAINING!!!! WHY NOW!!!
6.20am: designated driver is late so i take train down instead.
6.35am: debbie and i head over to the field and debbie shrieks each time there's lightning!
6.45am: it starts to POUR and we race for the nearest void deck where the rest are cowering out of the wind's way
7.00am: it starts to get brighter. we start kitting up so we can trek across the muddy fields to the tents

This year there are 32 teams from around the region, 24 mixed and 8 open. Teams fly in from Japan, Beijing, Taiwan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. All in, about 500 people!

Surprising ourselves, we win 2 out of our first 3 games (Chinese Taipei, Chubbies, Flying Naan (Malaysia)) which puts us second in our pool!

We then play the winners of another pool - Gazaibang fr Japan. We lose, but i think they deserved to win.

Spirit of the game = the over-riding rule in ultimate = when your mark falls into a mud puddle and you pick up the disc to play on. then you realise your defender's still there and you rush back to help him up. and clean his face with... your own shirt. good one fw!

Sunday

Played two more matches to vie for the top spots of Pool B. We lost both, shouldn't have, very wasted. We end Opens on a rather demoralised note.

Disappointed on a whole because we played so well on saturday and then i don't know what happened on sunday. Felt it even more when members of DK and Shiok also seemed surprised that we were losing... and even some random player from the Vietnam Vudoo team who didn't know us walked up to me and asked what the score was and then said "awww! you guys played so well yesterday!" Really sucked.

Personally though, i played better than i was expecting of myself but it seems it still wasn't enough. Drat my lousy stamina.

But nonetheless, at least we played well on the first day! The past two years, it's not as though we never won, but i don't think we played as well as we did this year, and never won by such score lines: 11-2, 13-2. I like our team this year and i think they really have potential. I hope the players stick on then we can only get better and better each year! I can't believe this is my last Opens!
