last week, my friend said to me:
"anyway.. haf u ever thot of giving up the hilton one?? i mean.. unless u really like it.. then i say continue waiting.. but think sg may go into recession next yr... finding a job will only take longer... so depending how much u like it... if it's me.. i would find something else n move on...
like u say.. life can be abit annoying.. through my 4 yrs of work.. i've been asking myself why didnt i just wait n find something i really like.. but during my "waiting period".. i realised that it's better to haf a job.. so ta da.. that's my prob.. not enuff passion to wait for the RIGHT one.. haha.. maybe it's the same concept as BGR.. haha.. imagine u are waiting for MR HILTON to make the 1st move.. until wat pt u can wait until u decide the rest of the forest a chance?? haha.. there u go.. some concepts are universal... hee"
well i guess that's me... i'm a waiter!
and i'm as amazed as anyone else that it's actually paid off...
considering how many times i almost gave up! like when i thought i'd be overseas and would miss an interview. but was emailed just before i left to be told it'd be a phone interview instead.
like when i thought "oh yay, phone interview! oh no, no mood to prepare! oh no what if there's no reception wherever i am?!" and yet managed to find a quiet spot at the bottom of a mountain range in Wales to answer the call.
like when i didn't hear from them for over a month (past the time the program was supposed to start) and had grown tired of coming up with excuses for them to all the people who kept asking if i'd heard.
like when i'd finally decided to go into something else! only for them to call the next day and tell me i'd reached the final round.
and like when i went for the final assessment and felt so out-of-place and misqualified amongst the rest of the candidates.
and like last thursday, a week after we were supposed to have heard of the results, when CNA had an absolutely abysmal report about the job market and insider info claimed that Hilton had frozen headcount... which made me figure i really needed to know whether to cut my losses and move on or not, so i finally called and asked!
and found out that i'd gotten in! :)

more than half a year since first applying!
who me?
It still hasn't quite sunk in yet, and i hope the program lives up to expectations! I think i persevered so long because nothing else that I came across (save one) appealed to me as much as this and so I hope it doesn't prove otherwise!
meanwhile, now that I still have 2 to 3 months to spare, maybe i'll go be a... waitress!
(that 2-3 month gap is in itself yet another story on how marvellously things are working out! couldn't have asked for better timing!)
