i realise i'm lacking a very important social skill in singapore - the ability to talk about food.
a lot of small talk (or maybe it IS Big talk!) seems to revolve around food and the best place to go for XXX. most of the time when the lunch time conversation (once again) turns to some foodie topic i just keep quiet and concentrate on... eating.
and this lack of opinion and non-possession of an instant list of favourite eating shrines comes despite the fact that i regularly eat out on week days, have a nice 'sunday roast' every week, and have probably been to every single reputable Chinese restaurant in Singapore over the course of 23 years of family dinners.
am i not singaporean enough?
i don't usually pay much attention to my food (except to de-veg it). i care about what i eat but not so much about it's quality. my favourite dishes are all easily obtainable local hawker fare and hence my favourite place to eat is usually just a food court. i suppose i've been to a lot of nice restaurants but i just don't remember them. what can i say... it's the company not the food that counts ;)
yup i'm not very discerning about food. i live by 2 simple rules:
all veg is yucky
all desserts are yummy (ok except maybe some of those dubious traditional chinese ones)
Perhaps it's time I went to mug Makansutra.
Or is there anyone who wants to take me on an educational food tour of Singapore?
