Love Coup of the Year!

I've always said that the 19th is a good date. All the best things happen on the 19th. 19th jan... 19th apr...
so anyway 19 jan 08 started off on a great note!

cos i woke up to teh tahrik on the breakfast table.

my brother sure knew how to make sure he lasted through the day!

Tea Ceremony Highlights

- the wedding couple arrived late cos the groom was hed up by unexpected tekan-ing at the gate! *snigger* he deserved it i say.

- Remy was prettied up for the day with a pink ribbon which he gamely wore but it still couldn't make up for his ugly haircut! hahaha

- Nathan very obediently called his uncle and new aunt by their proper cantonese titles in his adorable and very-British accent when bribed with promises of a reward for his efforts (he didn't need much prompting actually)

- Lauren eagerly stretched out her hands for her presents and was the happiest that i'd seen her this entire trip when she grabbed one red packet in each hand! (she loves holding things!) the official photog got a really good shot of her happily waving both packets!

Church Ceremony Highlights

- the church was absolutely packed

the flower girl saw the crowd and the swordbearers and burst into tears

which delayed the wedding procession

and gave new meaning to the entrance song - "it's a loooong loooong journey...." by corinne may

and which made the ring boy almost back out too

resulting in richard becoming the flower girl and holding nathan's hand down the aisle!
- parents of the bride who beamingly gave her away

- my dad who spoke of my mum's prophetic verse to my brother "for ye shall go out with joy... (Is 55:12)" and my mum who sang the same song she sang to my dad when they got married 30 yrs ago - "Each for the Other and Both for the Lord"

- caleb and ruth's song dedication to the newlyweds

- homemade pew decorations!

nathan in his tux with coattails and a red bow tie and waistcoat even!

presenting...

it was a really lovely ceremony and left quite a few people teary-eyed!

Wedding Dinner Highlights

- pretty hotel decor!

- what was probably the longest wedding video in wedding history! 359 slides! tracing back their long history and recounting their story. (more at http://andrewandjoy2008.weddingannouncer.com)

- me and my sister's expose on my brother:

"Our brother has a tender heart. He's had a tender heart since young. This is Tenderheart. *whip out soft toy carebear* He still sleeps beside our brother every night." (technically true. he sleeps in the cupboard next to his bed...)

- a yam-seng competition between the on-stage bunch and the off-stage bunch!
- and when we thought it was done there was still a ear-piercing yam seng which we thought was microphone feedback but which turned out to be my aunt putting her soprano vocals to good use and out-lasting and out-pitching the entire room to score "one for the wongs!" as she put it!

Dinner entertainment:
- Boggle!
- cousins from each side who could actually sing well!
- funny emcees and silly games for the couple
- speeches galore... in which my dad basically just went up to say "hello" and "thank you", joy proved to have an amazing memory, and my brother seranaded her with adam sandler's 'grow old with you' which became... "i'll even do the dishes *cough* in the kitchen sink..."
- video of the earlier proceedings... footage of the groom fetching the bride to the words of:
"The only one who could ever reach me, Was the son of a preacher man, The only boy who could ever teach me, Was the son of a preacher man"... very apt. it's not easy being a pastor's son eh.
i met one of my friends in school and he said his parents had come home and reported that it'd been a lot of fun! that's good...
So yes in my undoubtedly biased opinion, it really seemed like a celebration in the truest sense of the word!
