"Six degrees of separation (also referred to as the "Human Web") refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is no more than six "steps" away from each person on Earth. The easier way to understand this is that person A only need a maximum of six people in between to connect to person B.(Supposing person A and B don't know each other.)"
i tested out the above theory with my first ever "mix everybody together" party in the form of dinner and drinks which is something i've always wanted to do but never quite bothered/dared.
friends invited ranged from my oldest pri sch friends to my newest frisbee friends and there were enough overlaps between each group to make mingling quite comfortable!
of course strategic invitations helped (only invited people who were likely to know at least 3 or 4 others!) as well as the fact that most of my friends are friendly, sociable people (which is probably why they're my friends! :)
to analyse this better, i'm mentally breaking my friends down into several groups:
1. pri sch
2. sec sch
3. jc
4. smu-frisbee
5. smu-switzerland
6. smu-fun, cool ppl
7. sunday frisbee gang
- most of my pri sch friends knew most of my sec sch friends (side-effect of gep).

who says rg geps are nerdy! they're all so chio!
- most of my sec sch friends knew a few of my smu friends (which despite belonging to 3 diff groups, pretty much all know each other. yes smu is small).
- and my smu-frisbee ppl knew most of the sunday frisbee gang (oops i just realised i left out xk! should have invited him! but he's been mia for awhile).
- some of my jc and uni friends overlap, except that the overlappers weren't there, haha! so the jc grp in a sense seems the most out of place, and i also invited the fewest from this group. dunno if it's because jc was the shortest or because it was the most "off the beaten track" path that i took, choosing to go there when none of my close sec sch friends were going too!
- there were also 2 missing groups. 1 was my shanghai group, who would have overlapped a bit with my smu grp, except that none of them cld make it. and 2nd was my smu ambassadors grp of which the only members who turned up were the ones who overlapped with other grps because i thought there was a ambassador event on the same night so i didn't invite them! (turned out the event was on another night. ooops)
on the whole, the night was quite a success i think, and i had a blast! the only stressful factors came from logistical issues such as timbre telling me last min that my reservation was not confirmed hence making me change venues suddenly altho i think brewerkz proved to be a better choice in the end - quieter. but i did feel bad that we ran out of chairs and that a group of friends were standing at the doorway most of the time! i also didn't get to spend as much time with each person as i would have liked but i really didn't have time for that, hence the big party. nonetheless i DID speak to each person for a bit and it wasn't just fluffy hi-bye stuff.
the strangest part... some of my friends really hit it off! Sue totally adored my Shadow and my soulmate met another soulmate! so at the end of the day... my friends aren't gonna miss me cos they all have each other now!
