1) PHOTOS. i love photos. and now i've immortalised years of fun times and wacky moments on my wall for me to gaze at whenever i want to.
surprise surprise... but the person who ended up taking up the most wall space, or at least who appeared the most times across all the photos, is.... my sister (7 photos)!! completely unintentional of course. i have no idea why... i guess she was just lucky enough to always be in the right place at the right time!
i mean take for example one of the photos. there were a number of reasons why i chose to include it. it had (1) my niece, Lauren (2) our house decorated for my brother's wedding in the background (3) my nice white dress of which i have no other photo of and then... (4) my sister was in it too! (purely for a utility purpose of course... she was there to carry the baby)
in second place was D (6 photos!). this one was entirely expected. in fact i thought she'd figure the most. and actually she would have cos i had 3-4 other photos of her and me but due to space constraints i had to cut those out... esp since most of our photos tend to just be the 2 of us (other people aren't game enough to do all the fun stuff that we do with us :P) whereas y'know i'd put grp photos in like those at my 21st birthday (and my sis wld be there..), my graduation (she's there again), family reunion dinners (and she's still there!!)... so the conclusion must be that photos of D and i are too exclusive to just be displayed any old how! oh D, those were the days huh... when will we get to do wacky things again? :( oh well, there was last sunday night i guess haha.
anywayyyy there are many more people who ought to be up there but either i missed them out while hunting through my many many photos or i just don't have photos of them. in fact, i wouldn't have had all those photos of my 'best friends since primary school' J & M if it wasn't for our recent US trip!
2) My Tray Paper Collection!
of my many strange collections, i think i like this one the best. [because they don't take up as much space as my hat collection, and they don't cost as much as my 50cent/ foreign currency note collection. in fact they don't cost anything at all!] i finally laminated some of them yesterday and i'm so proud of them. they looked good before, but now they look fantastic!! :D
correction: they don't cost anything until lamination time... then they become exorbitant and hence i can only afford to laminate a few at a time. or maybe i shld start trading in my 50c collection for their lamination.
they've also cost me a lot of laughs from friends in whose presence i've gone up to counters to give my seemingly-ludicrous request of a few tray papers [think: my st gallen friend who was smirking behind the camera when the dubai macs guy asked to take a photo with me and my tray paper after i'd asked for it and MrYJK who watched me approach the Canadian BK staff with an infuriatingly amused look on his face...] but well let's see who has the last laugh now! center: coffee bean. one of the few vertical tray papers in existence with a rather nice retro-looking [i think] design
outer ring (clockwise from top):
1. my current favourite- the dubai macs tray paper (because it's very middle eastern (the lady) and very Macs ('i'm lovin' it) at the same time);
2. the St Gallen Macs tray paper in a mix of German and English (nothing special about the design, just memorable because we had our celebratory "graduation" lunch there. a splurge because each meal cost the same as it wld back here but in Francs, which made it about SGD$10... so much for the Big Mac Index);
3. the Shanghai Macs tray paper in Chinese (again the design wasn't particularly fantastic but it's memorable for all the times sam and i would go there and nap during our office lunch hour and for all the fast food meals we inevitable ate the first few days while we were frantically job hunting, not by choice but simply because they seemed the most ubiquitous at that point in time and we were too tired and stressed to hunt for local food);
4. my second favourite of this lot - the Sri Lankan KFC tray paper which [ironically] says "let's eat chinese!" according to my lankan friends [don't worry, i'm sure they're not cannibalistic];
5. the Canadian A&W tray paper - it's A&W!! need i say more?! that's beyond rare in singapore! it features a "Teen Burger" which was one of a set. they also had "papa burger", "mama burger" etc, but unfortunately i didn't hang around long enough to get the rest. also memorable because it was one of the food stops on our road trip :) [i know, i know, a drive-thru would be more stereotypical, but you don't get tray papers in drive-thrus!]
6. a Singapore Macs tray paper. this one i truly love for the design, which explains its presence in my collection in the first place. i only collect singaporean ones when the design is special or different enough. if you don't remember this, it's probably because it's from 2004.
unfortunately my collection is dwindling, or at least increasing at a decreasing rate, because
1) i hardly eat fast food anyway
2) cost & environmentally conscious fast food outlets are beginning to stop printing tray papers (i couldn't get any in the UK at all!! i really wanted a welsh one but i don't think wales even has fast food. i think they like their cows too much.)
3) i tend to forget. i realise i don't even have tray papers from malaysia and thailand even though they're the places i go to the most often!
4) some get hopelessly crushed while transported (they don't survive well in backpacks i've found) but usually i keep them anyway!
i've envisioned a much greater future for my tray papers of course, but for now they make good wall posters :)
stay tuned for the next installation of the Tray Paper Collection! [but be patient. but excited! many more nice ones to come.]
