Bangkok has declared a State of Emergency.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Singa-
poreans to refrain from travelling to Bangkok
unless absolutely necessary. When asked about
the situation back home, Soi Cowboyz, a Thai
frisbee team in Singapore just for a weekend of
frisbee fun, said of the protestors, "Oh no worry.
These people are just being stupid! You can still
go! You can still enjoy! Have fun! It safe!"
Two Singaporean girls who were in Bangkok for
a holiday, were surprised by a flood of sms-es
asking after their well-being. Safely cocooned by
about 10000 shops in the depths of Platinum S-
hopping Centre, there was no hint of political tur-
moil.
"State of emergency? More like state of urgency...
to finish shopping!" said one. While clueless as to
what news reports were showing back home, the
sms-es made the situation out to be pretty serious.
Could the yellow-shirted protestors have surroun-
ded the shopping centre with their knives and spe-
ars?
But no, the streets of Bangkok were as jammed as
ever, tuk tuk drivers were still trying to cheat naive
tourists, massage parlours still had their doors open,
and street side stalls were still serving up fragrant
Thai yumminess and Cha Yen.
