morning walk and a mahjong-warming session

so today i bidded dear ol' wy goodbye. but not before i'd dragged her out at an unearthly hour to be a tourist back in our own country.

we woke up so early that i actually felt giddy.
then we walked around tiong bahru
with its nice old low hdb buildings
me: "strike a stupid pose!"
wy:"i can't! i'm not stupid so i can't make stupid poses!"
but she did anyway :P this window had "OT" on it. what does OT mean?
wy: "operating theatre?" good doctor-to-be.
me: : "overtime?" only if the OT pay is good.

really old P.O Boxes

trying to achieve a fisheye effect

along the way we also had breakfast at the tiong bahru market. which i've heard so much about but never actually been to. the porridge was really good.
and across the road they had the famous shanghai yuyuan nanxiang xiao long baos! wonder if they're as good. didn't try them...
then on a whim, deb and i decided to go hunt down Books Actually cos it's their last day at their present location before they move to ann siang (one of my favourite areas!)
smart us thought they were located near outram.
so we walked and we walked and we walked and stopped many ppl for directions
and finally found it beyond a mosque and a temple and across from a really big rolls royce.

below there was a coffee shp with really good french toast! thick and fluffy and not too eggy!

it's such a cute place. i'm sure elaine and my sis would like it too.

continuing in our spontaneous mood we next tried to track down "design in singapore" at mohd sultan st. we triumphantly pounced upon the shophouse with right name above it... only to find that the shop had just moved.
it's so hard to be spontaneous here. but deb's a great pal for trying with.

Mahjong-Warming Session
to break in the new mahjong set that my brother just gave me as a [very] early bday present
with who else but my mahjong shi fus - my shanghai family! :):):)
first we fortified ourselves with chomp chomp favourites
and then set ourselves down amidst chiming clocks and sighing dogs
and sped our way through the game to finish by 12
so that jes' car wldn't turn into a pumpkin
and after steadily losing through the night [me, that is]
we finally reached our last round
and i gamed!
max of 5 tai + zi mo... i was so excited that i ran to get my camera and so i have no idea how much i actually won haha.

thanks guys. my mahjong set is a very warm and happy mahjong set now.
